Scripture: Proverbs 1:2-6

To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;
To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;
To give subtlety to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.
A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:
To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

Only through spiritual training and development can we understand the real meaning and significance of scripture.  Much of it is intentionally written in a codified form so it won't be understood by materialistic or evil persons.  When intellectuals with little spiritual knowledge try to understand scripture or, worse yet, translate it into another language, they often end up with something that is very wrong because the literal meaning of the words are often far different from their meaning in a spiritual context.  When the prophets write about wise men, they are not talking about those who have an advanced degree from a secular university; they are talking about those who have obtained spiritual understanding.
