Random Thoughts 3-22-2009

Have you ever seen orange chocolate?  Not orange flavored chocolate, orange colored chocolate?  I never have.  Yet, for some reason, if you tell most computers or web pages that you want something colored "chocolate" ( style="COLOR: chocolate"), instead of THIS DARK BROWN, which is what you expect, you get SOMETHING LIKE THIS.  Weird.

A lot of businesses are hurting due to the economy, but a few are actually doing well.  Some obvious ones are resume writers and others that help people find jobs.  in addition, auto repair shops and electronics repair shops are doing well as many are choosing to get old cars and televisions fixed rather than buying a new one.  Another one is old fashioned cobblers.  Hikers in particular are choosing to have new heels or soles put on expensive hiking boots rather than buy a new pair.

When he was in the eigth grade, McKay Hatch didn't like the constant cussing he heard from his fellow students so he started the No Cussing Club.  It's blossomed into a web site with members in thirty countries.  Kudos to McKay.

Dumb Crimes:

In December, in Portland, Maine, a guy tried to rob a small store at four pm.  There was very little money at the time, so he said he would come back at 11 pm  and did.  Police were, of course, waiting to arrest him.

In Maryland, a guy was recently arrested for causing accidents by dumping buckets of oil on a sharp curve of a highway.  This was the second time he did that!  Apparently, this is his way of getting revenge against the police who have given him a number of traffic tickets in the area.  I'm sure most of us tend to think guys who do this kind of thing must have an IQ somewhere between a turnip and a tree frog, but not in this case.  This guy is a highly paid IT (Information Technology) consultant so probably has at least a bachelor's degree.
