Static

Static comes in many forms.  There is the static electricity that makes your hair stand on end, clothes from the dryer cling and gives you a shock when you touch a metal doorknob.  There is the static on radio and TV that interferes with the sound and picture reception.
There is another type of static that is important when it comes to spiritual development.  This is the thought static stat is generated by all of us.  This static is especially significant when it is mostly negative.  It is hard for us as individuals to rise to a higher level when that static all around is pulling us back down.   There are two ways to get around this problem.
When you are on your own, go into the woods, go to a park,  even in a boat on a lake.  Somewhere away from large numbers of people.  Somewhere where the few people who are around will be giving off mostly positive thought energy, positive vibes.  Then practice your prayer, meditation or other spiritual development techniques.
The second way to get around this problem is to practice your meditation or other spiritual techniques with a group of like-minded individuals.  That way, your combined thoughts can more easily overcome the effects of the negative thoughts of others.
You can also combine both methods for the best results of all.  That is why we in the International Community of Christ have our sanctuary well away from other people in the mountains outside of Reno, Nevada.

I think that's why so many people relax so much better in quiet areas than in cities and busy areas. I instantly unwind when I go for a walk on a pretty country road or go snowshoeing in the woods or our on the lake. Once I relax then getting in touch with ourselves, nature and God are so much easier.
