The Tale of Wendel
Wendel Schnook was a very unhappy man. He was unhappy because everyone was against him. He knew that because, well, he just did. Everybody was against him and everybody was out to get him.
Wendel was an important man. He had to be important if everyone was against him. He was the center of a universe of negativity and the center of a universe has to be someone important, right?
Wendel had no friends because he couldn't trust anyone. He needed a new car, but he was afraid to buy one because he felt the dealer would try to rip him off. He was reluctant to buy clothes for fear the salesman would sell him something defective. He built a high fence around his property to keep out the people who were after him, though it didn't really make him feel safe.
So Wendel went through life fearing, hiding and generally avoiding people because they were all out to get him. When he died, hardly anyone even noticed. No one seemed to care one way or the other because no one actually knew Wendel. And no one was really out to get him, accept Wendel himself.
