Random Thoughts 1-18-2009
In Australia, they've found a new use for hearding dogs. They are being trained to protect endangered animals like this one guarding a colony of penguins.
A cute video from North Shore Animal League encouraging President Obama and all of us to adopt shelter pets.
To be fair to the cat folks, here is a link to a YouTube dancing kitten video.
I had two occurances of syncronicity last week. First, I wrote about the Earth's magnetic field on this blog and, a day later, I was listening to the History Channel special on Nostradamus and 2012 and someone mentioned that the earths magnetic field is becoming erratic and growing weaker and there is fear that it could collapse or reverse (bot would be disasters). In the second, I was ready to give up on getting an item I ordered by mail and was going to order it online in a few minutes from another company when the package arrived.
Dumb Crime Stories
A guy tried to rob a convenience store. When the clerk resisted, the crook tried to spray him in the face with pepper spray. Unfortunately (for the crook), he had the nozzle backwards and sprayed his own eyes.
Another bright convenience store robber took goods off the shelfs as well as money. He couldn't resist opening a bag of popcorn to munch on as he ran off. When the police arrived, they had little trouble finding the crook. He left a trail of popcorn from the store to his appartment a block away.

Hi Harold,
Thanks for the uplifting Random Thoughts...I loved the article about the dogs in Australia that are guarding the penquins. Also, I have a pet shelter dog and can vouch that they are the BEST pets ever! I encourage everyone who wants a pet to go to a shelter. The shelter I got Casey from is wonderful with lots of volunteers to walk the dogs (that's another idea...people can volunteer at shelters, as they need lots of help with the animals) never kills the animals...actually picks up animals at other shelters to save them. But, their space is limited, so I encourage everyone I know who wants a dog, cat or even a pet rat to go there to find it.
Wishing you rich blessings in 2009 ~
Jenna

I agree. I currently have two dogs that were both adopted from the local shelter. Nova is a Great Pyrenees, another type of herding dog who is very affectionate. Cocoa is a Doberman mix who thinks he is an eighty-pound lap dog. They do have some faults, but no worse than other dogs I've had before that I bought. Volunteering to work at a shelter is a great idea for someone who loves animals and wants to do volunteer work.
