The Essenes and Baptism
John the Baptist wandered the desert preaching and baptizing. Most historians believe now that John and Jesus were Essenes.
Today, most Christian are baptized once, usually as a baby.
The Essenes, also called the baptists or baptizers, took a ritual bath, or baptism, daily before going out to greet the rising sun with morning prayer. This ritual bath was more than just washing the body. As they washed themselves, the Essenes also asked God to cleanse them of evil thought and negative energy. In short, it was a cleansing of the mind and spirit as well as the physical body. They wanted to be as pure as possible before going out to speak to God.
Today, few Christians practice baptism in the same way. Some priests and ministers may have a cleansing ritual they conduct before religious services. I also think the practice in some churches of people blessing themselves with holy water before entering the church is an offshoot of the Essene baptism or bathing ritual.
I think we can all benefit from this cleansing, even if we are not Christians. It doesn't require any special equipment or carefully composed prayers. All you have to do is while you take your bath or shower just ask God to cleanse your mind and spirit as well, for example:
God, as I cleanse my body help me to cleanse my mind of evil and negative thoughts and my spirit of harmful and negative energies.
Fell free to reword it according to your own beliefs and preferences, as long as you get the idea across.

Hi Harold,
I frequently think to myself after a rough day at the office or elsewhere, "I'm going to take a nice, long shower and wash all negativity from my aura." Now, your suggestion backs this idea up as mystically based, especially when consciously asking God to wash negativity away.
Thanks for the post ~
Jenna
