Tessie the Collector

My aunt Tessie loved to collect things.  It seems like she started a new collection every few years.  A collection of thimbles started it.  Then a collection of porcelain dolls.  A Christmas plate she received as a gift started another collection.  A tiny stuffed dog that resembled her dog Rex started another one.  An anniversary cruise started a collection of miniature cruise ships.  More collections followed.
Unfortunately, the one thing she did not collect is friends.  As she got older and more obsessed with collecting, even the few friends she had stopped visiting her.  The same with most of her relatives.
When she died at age eighty-two, there were few left to attend the funeral.  And her wonderful collections were sold to pay off debts.

I don't have an aunt Tessie, but I do know people like this.  This is a parable about someone who becomes obsessed with possessions and looses what is important in the process.  It doesn't have to be collections, sometimes it's just one or two big possessions they become obsesses with.
