Random Thoughts 8-17-2008

I thought with everyone watching the Olympics, readership of this blog would drop.  Instead, it actually went up a little this week.

Affirmation of the week (tell it to yourself often):

I can do it if I believe I can and trust in God.

Quote of the week:

"I've been able to use my imagination.  When so many people say it's not possible, that's where my imagination came into play"
Michael Phelps

Crazy Crime:

A Los Angeles man is accused of killing his neighbor for playing loud music. Reymondo Serrato, 58, was arrested Wednesday in the suburb of Pacoima on suspicion of murder. Police Sgt. James Reid says Serrato got into a scuffle with Jubenal Guillen over loud music and Serrato pulled out a gun and fired.  I wonder if he got an award from the National Rifle Association for being sensible enough to carry a hand gun just in case he needed to settle a dispute.

 Religious News:

The Humane Society of the United States is working with some religious leaders and organizations to end factory farming that treats animals very inhumanely.  Egg laying chickens are kept in cages no bigger than a bread box for their entire (shortened) lives.  They are tricked into laying twice a day by using artificial lights rather than real sunlight.  This burns them out quickly and at about 18 months old, still quite young for a healthy hen, they are slaughtered.  Other animals are treated just as poorly.
