Olympic Opening Cerimonies
I loved the opening ceremonies from Beijing. The way they combined modern technology with traditions and the way they honored the major religions of the area which have been so instrumental in the civilization of China and the rest of the world.
I particularly liked the moving type that formed waves, ripples, Chinese characters and the Great Wall. Everyone was assuming this was an engineering feat driven by hydraulics or electro-magnets and controlled by computers, then it was revealed that people were doing it!
The single dancer on top of a carpet carried by dozens of people was another symbolic image I enjoyed. The single dancer, much like those so called "self made" millionaires, divas, etc. when they are really standing on the shoulders of many others who came before them or work along side them outside of the spotlight.

I was at work at the Chinese Restaurant the night of the "Olympic Opening Ceremonies". The owners of the restaurant, their children, and the employees gathered around to watch. They were so excited about it. And it was so more exciting for me because they explained so much of it to me. No one could take their eyes off the screen. Each scene was more mesmerizing than the last. We especially loved the great wall. We all agreed that the final lighting of the torch was the best part of all with the former Olympiad seemingly jogging in air around the whole stadium to lite the final torch. I must admit, it was the most spectacular show I have ever seen. It was difficult for me to be interested in the Olympics this year because they are in Beijing and I disagree so strongly with the Chinese government with it's disregard for human rights in it's own country, and especially in Tibet. I am hoping that somehow these Olympic Games will make them realize that we are all equal and they have no right to force their beliefs on anyone and have no right to hold a country under seige, as they are holding Tibet, because they have different beliefs than they have. I am praying for Tibet and the Chinese people and hoping that the Chinese Government will advance along with the rest of the modern world in it's treatment of it's own people and will release Tibet out of bondage.

It is hard to ignore China's human rights violations, but I believe they will change gradually and bringing the world inside during the Olympics will move in that direction.
