Mountains, Valleys and Flat Land
If you have ever driven though areas like New Mexico where you see nothing but flat land in every direction, you know how boring and monotonous it is (I'm sure people who live there learn to notice small differences like artist Georgia O'Keeffe did). A scene with mountains and valleys, rivers and lakes, trees and flowers, is much more interesting.
Most people agree with that when it comes to scenery, but not so much with people. They think it would be best if everyone looked the same, dressed the same, spoke the same language, went to the same church, etc. In fact, if that actually happened, it would be just as boring to live with those people as living in that totally flat landscape. It is differences that help to make us interesting. Notice how TV advertisers have leaned to hire spokes persons who speak with foreign accents? A guy with an Australian or British accent is noticed more than one with a standard American accent. If fact, I suspect some of these guys may even be faking those accents because it does make them more interesting.
And when a girl shows up at school dressed different than most of her classmates, that will be noticed, for better or worse, because differences are interesting. And when a guy shows up with his hair cut in an unusual style, he will be noticed, because differences are interesting.
So instead of thinking that life would be better "if everyone was exactly like me", learn to embrace and enjoy diversity, because you do value diversity, even if you don't realize it. If you don't believe me, get a black & white TV and see if you like that better than color.
