Making Choices
I'm sitting on my deck reading. From my right ear, I hear a neighbor's hedge trimmer. From my left, I hear birds chirping in a tree in my backyard. I could choose to dwell on the noise of the trimmer and be annoyed by the racket, but I choose to listen to the birds and enjoy the pleasant singing. I don't pretend the hedge trimmer doesn't exist, I just choose not to let it annoy me.
I'm in the supermarket shopping for groceries. The cart I'm pushing, like most, has a squeaky wheel. I can choose to concentrate on the squeaky wheel and let it annoy me or I can listen to the background music and enjoy the experience.
I'm on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Italy. I can complain about the dirty water and the annoying pigeons in Venice as some others are doing, or I can enjoy the great architecture and history of the city.
Everywhere we go and in everything we do we make choices and, when we make the wrong choices, we usually blame others, but they didn't make those choices for us. There are many terrible things happening in the world all the time and we should all be doing what we can to end them, but we also cannot dwell on those things all the time or it will drive us into depression and possibly suicide. We accept that there is great evil in the world, but there is good too and we need to concentrate on enjoying the good, and spreading love, joy and tolerance to help stop the evil. We all have a dark spirit and a spirit of Light. We decide which one to develop. The choice, as always, is ours.

That is so true! There's a song with the line "it's not having what you want but wanting what you've got". It can be difficult sometimes so it is important to remind ourselves that we do have a choice at how we look at things and what we focus on. We can choose to focus on the negative and spread that around or the positive and spread that. We are infectious in everything we do.
