Scripture: The Bhagavad Gita 6:6-6:7
To those who have conquered themselves, the will is a friend.
But it is the enemy of those who have not found the Self within them.
The Supreme Reality stands revealed in the conciousness of those who have conquered themselves.
They live in peace, alike in cold and heat, pleasure and pain, praise and blame.
Those who have conquered their ego self, allowing their inner self, their true self, to come forward and be in charge, still have an ego and still have a will and can use them to do good. Those who have not let their inner self past the barriers of the ego find instead that their will often leads them into situations they should have avoided.
Those who have brought forth their true self, are aware that the world is not perfect and work to fix it, but still do not waste their energy on anger and hatred, but live in peace and acceptance knowing that it will be corrected so there is no reason to get angry about it.

The verse described above is one of the most powerful and inspirational one in the Gita. In today's world it can be interpreted as how a person can be the master of one's own destiny by controlling one's mind. The chapter also elaborates on techniques of meditation.
