The U.S. Department of Commerce made it official this week. They stated that gas prices are expected to stay around the four dollar a gallon mark for the next year. No statement on what the government will be doing to help ease the situation.
Along with that, more airlines have announced that they will start charging a fee for all checked luggage, which will just encourage more people to carry duffel bag sized carry-ons and hold up the line boarding while they try to stuff them into overhead bins. Of course, there is the problem of things you can't carry onboard like sunscreen and pocket knife that have to go in checked luggage. Well, at least there are free refreshmints — oops!, sorry that's going too. On some airlines you will now pay $2 for a soft drink and $7 for the little bottle of wine that sells for $2.29 at the supermarket. Maybe they should talk to Steve Wynn of Las Vegas on how to fix a failing industry.
Also due to the gas prices, I saw on a recent news show that some farmers are parking the tractors and returning to mules and horses to plow and harvest. Hey, maybe the Amish are actually ahead of the times!
In a few days, the first of the "clone your dog" auctions will take place and we will find out if there really are people in the world that are both rich enough andstupid gullible (I'm trying to be polite) enough to bid $100,000 + for a dog clone instead of just getting another dog (since that is what they will be doing anyway, a clone is only a generic duplicate, not a complete duplicate).
Dumb Criminal of the Week:
A guy went to one of those convenience store - gas station combos and bought gas, then left. Shortly after, he returned, went into the convenience store with a gun and robbed the place. He was well disguised so the clerk could not recognize him and the security cameras couldn't get a picture. But he left his drivers license with address and picture behind.

That cloning the dog thing really freaks me out. All cloning freaks me out truthfully. But the immediate issue is the dogs. I am absolutely appalled that thousands of dogs are killed every day because no one will give them a home but now we're going to clone more of them! That is disgustingly selfish! This should be the definition of insanity. I understanding loving a dog or cat, I have always had both and I love them dearly like my children. I break down something awful when I loose one. I understand wanting them back but that's not what life is about. We loose people we love too and we have to accept that. What's next are we going to clone our husbands and wifes and stop allowing new people into our lives and hearts? Each dog, cat, person etc has a different personality that can very much enrich our lives. As sad as it is when someone dies we have to let go. It's not good for us to refuse to move on and accept life and death and allow others into our lives. I hope no one does this but I'm sure there will be some greedy ignorant ass that will. Sorry, I'm not willing to be polite on this one. When your dog dies adopt another one from an animal shelter and save a life that has a chance, a real life. This whole thing is just crazy.

I completely agree. I think the first clone auction starts today. I'm sure it will be mentioned in the news.
My mistake. They are allowing you to register to bid now, but the first auction is July 5th.

I know that we are living in a crazy world, but I cannot believe that there is going to be a "clone you're dog auction". It makes me crazy knowing that the money these people will spend on this insanity could help so many homeless animals who desperately need homes. And what will they do with these animals when they realize it is not the same animal, just the body of that animal? It will probably end up in a shelter to add to the rest of the homeless population. How stupid and insensitive could anyone possibly be. They are only thinking of their own selfish wants and not thinking about the animal at all.
