Gems and Crystals: Larimar
Larimar is a stone that was recently (1970's) discovered in the Dominican republic. Actually, the people of the Dominican Republic probably knew about it a century ago, but the rest of the world only found out in 1974.
Its color is a translucent turquoise blue mottled with white. The blue ones are more valuable than the blue-green. The color resembles the blue waters of the Caribbean so it is appropriate that this stone is only found in the Dominican Republic. The name come from Larissa and Mar, the names of the daughters of the man who gave it that name. Mar is also the Spanish word for sea so is appropriate. Scientifically, Larimar is blue pectolite. It is also sometimes called "Atlantis Stone" because of the belief that the island of Hispaniola is a remnant of that fabled land.
Folklore and healing:
Larimar is said to help us see things from different points of view. It is also reputed to aid spiritual awakening and enlightenment. It bring peace, clarity and love. It is said to relieve stress and aid communication.
It primarily aids the heart and throat chakras (energy centers) and the crown chakra and organs in that area of the body.
