Sacred Symbols: Flower of Life
The Flower of Life is a sacred symbol found in most religions of the world. It is said to be the pattern of creation that emerged from the great void. It is a geometric figure composed of overlapping circles where the center of each circle is on the circumference of six other circles. Philosophers, artists and architects consider it a perfect form with perfect balance and harmony and perfect proportion. It is considered a symbol of sacred geometry (Pythagoras, the father of geometry, considered all geometry sacred and thought it should only be taught to initiates in a religious or mystical school). The basis for music is found in the structure. Metatrons cube was derived from the Flower of life. The Tree of Life, in particular, the Kabbalistic version of it, is said to be derived from this symbol also. The seven circle basis of the Flower of Life , called the seed of life, represents the seven days of creation. In New Age groups, it is considered to have great spiritual meaning and is an aid to enlightenment. Da Vinci studied it for it's mathematical properties and used it's sense of harmony and proportion in some of his art,
The oldest known example of the Flower of Life is found in the Temple of Osiris in Egypt and some believe it symbolized the Eye of Ra.
