Gems and Crystals: Gibeon Meteorite

Gibeon Meteorite is not really a crystal, but an interesting stone.  It was discovered in 1836 in Namibia, Africa.  They are actually meteorites or fragments of meteorites composed of iron, nickel and small amounts of cobalt and classified as a fine octahedrite iron meteorite.  These are usually not tiny meteorites that you can pick up and put in your pocket.  Most weigh over 200 pounds and the largest found so far was 1400 pounds.  Modern metal detectors have allowed smaller ones to be located recently.  When cut and polished they have an interesting appearance that is something like a woven basket look.  This is caused by many centuries of traveling through cold space.

Folklore and healing:

There isn't much since they are so new and not really crystals.  Desert tribesman have used small pieces as arrowheads.  Iron is traditionally used for alignment and balancing.  Nickel helps the blood.
