Morals and Ethics

In recent months we have seen a lot of news stories about young people who seem to have no sense of morals or ethics.  The news reporters always seem to be very surprised by this.  I hope they are just pretending to be surprised.  I can't imagine why they would expect the young people of today to have morals and ethics.
It certainly isn't a subject being taught in school, at least not in public schools.  And since most of these young people never go to church, they certainly are not getting it there.  So where do these reporters think they would get it?  Their parents?  They don't have time and probably don't think it's important.
If you ask a public school teacher why they don't teach morals and ethics, they will probably tell you that is a religious subject so they can't touch it.  I totally disagree.  While churches do teach morals and ethics, it is really a social issue more than a religious one.  People cannot function as part of a society if they have no code or morals and ethics to guide them.  So if corporations can give employees training in business ethics, there is no reason why public school can't teach social ethics.
