Random Thoughts
This past Thursday was the National Day of Prayer. Many places in the Washington area held prayer events including the building where I work. I did not attend. This event is advertised as non-denominational, but is actually run by and controlled by an Evangelical Christian group. The only people permitted to actively participate in these events are the ones they choose. Of course, anyone can attend and listen, so in that sense, it is non-denominational, but if a Buddhist, or a Hindu, or even a Gnostic Christian wanted to get up and read their own prayers and scripture, they would not be allowed to do so. Congress has made great progress in allowing ministers of different faiths to say the opening prayer at sessions of congress. Now the same need to be done with the National Day of Prayer, or at lease change the name to "The National Day of Evangelical Christians".
If you are considering a new car because of the rising gas prices, here is a list of those with the best gas mileage.
If you really want to go green, see the cars available in your area at the Earthcar web site.
An interesting episode of Supernatural the other night. I never knew Thomas Edison's last invention was a "Spirit Phone" designed to let the living talk with the dead. Of course, most write this off as poor old Tom became senile, but he had worked on this idea off-and-on throughout his career. It's also claimed that Bell invented his telephone while trying to make a device to communicate with the dead.
Some strange photos:
Does she have red Pope shoes to go with this hat?
This looks like the dive master on one of my Caribbean island dives.
I can't blame Lucy the Bulldog for closing her eyes so she can't see the silly costume she has to wear!
