"What is that by knowing which all is known?"
He replied: "The illumined sages say Knowledge is twofold, higher and lower.
The study of the Vedas, linguistics, rituals, astronomy, and all the arts can be called lower knowledge.  The higher is that which  leads to Self-realization".


Studying scripture is like any other book learning.  It gives one limited knowledge, like trying to understand the smell of a rose from a photograph of one.  True knowledge requires going beyond reading books, scripture included, to doing what the great prophets, mystics, sages and saints did and have always taught that we must do as well.  Jesus told us to follow him, do what he did,  and we would be saved.  So if you want to go beyond ordinary, if you want to gain Christ Consciousness, you need to get past reading and memorizing scripture, to applying it, preferably, with the help of a trained spiritual teacher.
