It takes a Village
It takes a village to raise a child. An old and very valid philosophy that has been largely forgotten in todays society. Especially in the United States. Instead we seem to be moving toward the street gang "snitch' philosophy of mind your own business and don't snitch on anybody. Let others do whatever they want to do. The crime is not doing something wrong, but getting caught, so don't snitch. Even if people want to do what they know is right, they are afraid they may get beaten or even killed if they do.
The result is young people growing up with little guidance in ethics and morality. The parents are too busy having to work long hours to make ends meet. Public school teachers can't teach morality and ethics because they are considered religious subjects, but many young people don't go to church so they are not getting it from the ministers.
When I was a kid, I wouldn't have dared to walk down a public street smoking a cigarette because someone would have seen me and took the cigarette away or called my parents, maybe both. That is not being a snitch. That is being a responsible member of a society who doesn't want to see the society destroyed by apathy and anarchy.
Now we have coaches and doctors supplying athletes with illegal steroids because it will help them win games. So what if it ruins their lives a few years later. We have parents who run red lights, and speed with the kids in the car. What lesson is that teaching them? We have parents who buy illegal fireworks so the kids can have a fun and dangerous Forth of July. What are they learning from that?
We need to return to the philosophy that adults are responsible for children. Not just their children, but all children. They are our future and amok time is not a future to look forward to.

I agree with that very much. Things have gotten way out of hand. Parents don't raise children anymore. They have them and leave them to raise themselves. Then when they grow up unruly the parents put the kids on drugs and blame it on ADHD. Not that it isn't a real and serious disease. But it's extremely overly and falsely diagnosed. The real diagnosis is lazy parents.

And lazy teachers who don't want to deal with kids who are bored and don't sit still and listen to them drone on so they send them off to the nurse for some drugs.
