Random Thoughts

I'm always ready to learn new things but here are some I never want to see:

  • A fire-breathing dragon with a head cold
  • A genetically engineered cross between an elephant and a porcupine
  • One of those guano islands  entirely buried in bird poop.

"Immortality is an empty concept unless you take it personally. "   Deepak Chopra

Even Nature learns.  In fields where genetically engineered crops with disease and drought resistance are grown, the weeds and wild plants that grow nearby develop the same mutations as if inheriting them from another species with no physical contact, just proximity.

It's interesting that with all the TV, newspaper and blog articles about the Democrats and Republicans and the minuscule differences they heatedly debate about, the many small political parties are completely ignored.

I didn't think anyone was noticing my poetry blog, but when I checked, I find it's getting nine or ten reads a day.  Not bad considering I created it just for my poetry class and haven't made much effort to promote it.  Once I finish the class, I will put more on it and promote it more.

The first few times I saw ice sculptures, I was amazed at the amount of work the sculptors do on them only to have them melt in a few hours.  Now I realize everything material is temporary, whether it's an ice sculpture that last three hours or a pyramid that lasts ten thousand years.

A closed mind is like a closed fist, it can give but can't receive.

Yesterday morning when I was leaving the house, a large bird, a hawk I think, took off from my front yard.  Hawks are not common here and seeing one in your yard is very unusual.  Seeing something unusual is a lot like dreaming about it so it usually has the same symbolic meaning.  Dreaming about a hawk means an improvement in position or status is coming.

Another bird story.  A small bird, I don't know the species, seems to have moved into my house (the guest bedroom of course) for the winter.  I think it is probably the bird that did the same thing last winter.  It manages to get in and out through the dog door.  What I find fascinating is that the two dogs I have now, and my Samoyed, Comet, who moved on to his next life last spring love(d) to chase birds.  On all previous occasions when a bird got into the house, usually through the chimney, the dogs go nuts chasing it.  Yet none of the three dogs were/are bothered at all by sharing the house with this bird.
