Prophecy Part 3
The final part of my story on prophecy and oracles. This one will cover prophets and seers from the last hundred years or so.
The obvious place to start is Edgar Cayce, The Sleeping Prophet. Cayce could self-induce a sleep-like trance state. In this state, he often diagnosed illnesses and recommended treatments. He also made many predictions of the future and revealed hidden truths about the past. Some of his predictions:
Ruth Montgomery predicted climate changes and a shift in the poles around the end of the twentieth century. She also wrote about the afterlife. Montgomery was a professional reporter and writer and got into Clairvoyance by writing about, and becoming friends with, two other twentieth century prophets, Arthur Ford and Jeane Dixon.
Arthur Ford was primarily a psychic medium but Ruth Montgomery wrote a book on his predictions of a coming new age.
Jeane Dixon was a well known astrologer and prophet who was also the subject of books by Ruth Montgomery. She gave advice to many well known clients including Ronald and Nancy Reagan. She told Reagan that he would be president one day. She is also well known for predicting the death of president Kennedy. Dixon has also been called "The psychic people love to hate". Skeptics love to point to the many predictions of hers that didn't come true. I suspect this may have been because she was not very good at interpreting her psychic visions.
Most of the large Christian churches today do not officially recognize any modern prophets. There are a few that do. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) is one that does. And my Church has several books of prophecy which are, at this time, available only to members.
Nearly all of us have some psychic abilities and occasionally get glimpses of the future, usually limited to our personal life rather than the world or national events that prophets foresee. Knowing how to interpret our psychic flashes, dreams, and visions can be tricky. I remember some years ago when my Chow Chow Charlie Brown was fourteen years old and in poor health (arthritis), I had a quick vision of him one night with white worms or maggots on him. I interpreted this as meaning he would die soon which was not surprising given his age and health, so I essentially ignored it. About a week later, I came home on a hot summer day and saw something strange on his muzzle when I looked at him laying in the grass sleeping. I got closer and saw that he actually did have maggots on his muzzle. I tried to brush them off with a rag, but a few were already boring into the flesh so I had to bring him to the vet and get them removed. I had never heard of this but the vet said it is not unusual. Apparently, very old dogs sometimes smell like rotting meat to a fly so they will lay eggs on them. Gross! So this vision was not symbolic at all, but very literal, which is unusual.
This conclude my three-part article on prophecy but I will probably write more on specific prophets, oracles, saints, and psychics in the future.

- Foresaw the Stock Market Crash of 1929
- "As to when, in time - it may be years, but all of the varied channels of communication will work one with another"
- Revealed that John the Baptist was an Essene years before the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls.
