The Healing Stone
A great holy man once had a large and powerful healing stone. He could channel a large amount of God’s Light into the stone which could then be used to heal many of their ills; physical, mental and sometimes even psychic and spiritual illness.
Robbers heard of this healing stone and decided to steal it. One night, while the holy man slept, they did just that.
The robbers thought they could sell the stone for a high price to a king and, since they lived in an area between many small kingdoms, finding a king who would buy the stone should be easy.
After they talked to representatives of three kings who were not willing to pay very much for the stone (the kings were in good health so didn’t have any real need for a healing stone), one of the crooks came up with an idea. They could break the large stone up into several smaller stones, than sell the pieces. The individual pieces would not cost too much, but the total they would get would be a good sum, a lot more than they could get for selling one large stone. The other robbers liked the idea so that is what they did. After striking the stone several times with a large hammer, it split into eight pieces of nearly uniform size.
Two of the crooks who were good at peddling stolen goods took the pieces and started talking to their contacts who represented some of the kings. In a short while they had sold five of the eight pieces. They were overjoyed! They were making a lot of money from the pieces of the stone. Their joy didn’t last.
Soldiers from the territory they were currently in showed up and took the crooks off to the castle to see the king. The soldiers led them too a private chamber and closed the doors. The king entered from a side door. He moved slow and was very pale. He had used the piece of healing stone to help with a case on indigestion, but instead of curing it, he now had severe stomach cramps and nausea. He demanded the crooks explain where they got the healing stone and they told the whole story.
“You idiots!” the king exclaimed. “Don’t you realize that a healing stone is an integrated whole. To change it in any way may cause it to loose it’s ability to hold healing Light. To break it into pieces can have a disastrous effect. Who know what havoc has been caused by the other pieces!”
The king than ordered the soldiers to take the crooks to the dungeon where they would be put to death. He sent emissaries to the other kings to warn them about the stone fragments and get the fragments back. In time, he was able to get all the fragments and return them to the holy man.
The holy man could not repair the healing stone, but he was thankful for what the king did. He said a prayer of forgiveness for him and the king’s illness was cured. Even though the king had made a mistake by buying a piece of the holy stone, he corrected his mistake and was forgiven.

Excellent story!

Thanks. I would like to do more of these fictional stories with a moral, but I seem to only get ideas for them about once a month.
