Silver Bells, Jingle Bells, bells are in many Christmas carols and stories.  Back in the Middle Ages, bells were used to bring large crowds together.  Bells were used to announce important events.  Some believed that ringing bells chased away evil spirits.  Church bells often ring to announce a birth and announce the birth of Jesus.  Shepherds rang a bell to help lost sheep find their way back to the herd so symbolize Jesus as The Good Shepherd.
