Book of the Week: The Secret Teachings of Jesus
The Secret Teachings of Jesus
Four Gnostic Gospels
Translation and notes by Marvin W Meyer
The book covers four gospels from the Nag Hammadi library: The Gospel of Thomas, The Book of Thomas, The Secret Book of James and The Secret Book of John.
This short book is one of my favorites on Gnostic scripture. Dr. Meyer's translation is very readable and understandable. The Gospel of Thomas is probably the best known of the Gnostic gospels largely because it was a source of data for Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code. It consists of 113 sayings attributed to Jesus. All of these four gospels provide instruction and encouragement to help each of us bring about our own Christ Consciousness. With the help of God and the Sun of Righteousness, of course.
