Each of us has two spirits.  A dark spirit given to us by the fallen angels and a Light spirit, or Divine spirit from God.  We can't get rid of the dark spirit and we probably shouldn't try.  We can, however, make sure that our Light spirit is the one that dominates.  For starters, we can do that by avoiding negative thinking and evaluating our motives in everything we do.

Unfortunately, many spiritual schools don't teach this.  They just teach you to be spiritual without being concerned about which spirit you're awakening. 

Hitler is a good example of someone who was very spiritual, but it was the dark spirit, not the Light that he used.  The roman emperor Nero is another.  He was very into black magic.  He didn't just fiddle while Rome burned.  He fiddled to make Rome burn.
