These legends and others are really about the same thing. The search for Christ Consciousness. The state of oneness with God. Nirvana.
This is not a task for beginners. The person who tries to do this without knowing how and without taking the proper precautions may find himself speaking with Satan or a demon instead. And they are very good at making you think you are talking to God, saints or angels, whenyour you're not.
The purpose of a priest or minister is to teach you how to do that with reasonable safety and when you are ready for it. It's fine for ministers to read scripture and deliver sermons, but that is only the beginning.

I agree and I would add that it's important to listen to your own gut in combination to the guidance from your clergy member. They are human too an can be led astray. Most are extremely sincere but to be safest combine both.

Yes, that's true. Hopefully, your dealing with clergy you can trust. Sometimes though, if a minister tells you something that your get tells you is wrong, you can't assume that the clergy is always right. Of course, in the International Community of Christ, a minister has many years of training befre he or she can be a teacher. That reduces the likelyhood that they may be teaching something false.
