A few years ago when I was touring Mayan ruins in Mexico, the Mayan guide told us(half serious, half joking):

"you Americans take a pill for everything! 
When you have a headache you take a headache pill.
The headache pill causes liver problems so you take a liver pill.
The liver pill causes stomach problems so you take a stomach pill.
And on and on. 
When all you had to do in the first place was take off your shoes and let your feet breathe and your headache would have gone away!"

Now I don't know how often that headache cure works, but he does have a point about the pills.
